Ancient city of Antalya and Bazaar
Kaleici is the historical
center of Antalya. Previously, almost the entire city was within the walls of
this castle. The city has various buildings from the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk,
Ottoman, and modern Turkish Republican eras. Nevertheless, most of the buildings
dated back to the end of the 18-19th century. Many premises in the city have
been converted into boutique hotels, restaurants, and shops selling handicrafts
and folk art.
The Kaleici area is
located opposite the port, which was built by the Romans during the Roman era,
located in the central-eastern part of the city on the Mediterranean coast.
The name Kaleici means
"Inside Kale" (the very word Kale means a castle or fortress).
Participants of the
program will be able to visit the greatest historical monuments, the beautiful
Ottoman Mosque Tekeli Mehmet Pasha Kami, built in the 18th century, Hadrian's
Gate, built-in 130 AD in memory of the visit of the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the
ruins of the Kesik Minare Kami (Mosque with a broken minaret), the former a
Roman temple built in the second century, which later became a Byzantine
church, and then, in the 13th century, a mosque. Every corner of the old city
is magical and has a historical value, at every corner you can take magical
photos and capture the moment.
In the old town of
Antalya, along the narrow streets, you can find one souvenir shop after
another. It also sells antiques, paintings, and quality carpets. Worth seeing,
some of which date back to the Ottoman era. The place gives you a feeling as if time has stopped here.
